Looking stunned at post World War II Japan with its huge numbers
of homeless children he asked himself: "What can I do to give
them a better future?" His love for sports led him to the right
answer: That sports would be the best starting point to achieve
this goal. ASICS was born.
By offering a wide range of sports footwear, apparel and equipment,
the company continued to grow. Up to now, ASICS is the fifth largest
brand in the sports shoe market worldwide, and a whole lot of subsidiaries
cover the four corners of the world.
In 1977, the Onisuka Co. Ltd. became ASICS. This name came from
a Roman poet named Juvenalis who left a famous phrase, "Anima
Sana in Corpore Sano" translated - If you were to pray to God,
you should pray for a "sound mind in a sound body".Taking
the acronym of this phrase as the company name, ASICS was established
in the sporting goods industry on the belief that the best way to
create a healthy and happy lifestyle for people is to promote sports.
Today, ASICS continues to walk in Mr. Onitsuka's footsteps.
